Environmental protection at the Neckarsulm site
Audi takes a holistic approach to the responsible use of resources. Within the context of the Audi AG environmental management system, this includes the continuous reduction of CO2, particulate and solvent emissions as well as increasing the recycling rate while at the same time minimizing the total volume of waste. The Neckarsulm site has been certified periodically according to the EMAS Eco-Management and Audit Scheme since 1995. An energy management system according to DIN ISO 50001 has also been established. The Neckarsulm site received the Volkswagen Energy Savings Award in 2012 in recognition of the various measures to save energy. One example is the efficiency of the newly inaugurated Engine Test Center. Energy generated by the engines on the test rigs is fed into the internal power grid. The water used to cool the engines and to air-condition the building is also re-circulated. Furthermore, Audi does not use drinking water for production, thus conserving this valuable resource. Audi operates its own water treatment plant to supply the plant with water from the Neckar.
