Audi Sport customer racing
The winner-typ of Audi

The motorsport professionals at Audi Sport customer racing have two fast cars available for customer teams – the R8 LMS ultra and the racing version of the TT RS. Since month the large GT racer score victory after victory.

The Audi R8 LMS ultra can look back on a great success story. From 2009 to 2011, its predecessor, the R8 LMS, claimed no less than 13 international titles, with last year’s season adding a further five new championships to the list. In 2012, no competitor won more GT victories than Audi. 18 successes grace the results table, four of them at tough endurance races – the 24-hour races on the Nurburgring, in Spa and in Zolder, as well as the 12-hour race in Bathurst, Australia.

A dozen new Audi R8 LMS ultra have been built for the 2013 season, bringing the total number of R8 GT racing cars ever built to 120. The car comes with a series of improvements impacting the aerodynamics, the front suspension pivot points and the wheels. At the first races of the FIA GT Series in Nogaro (France) and Zolder (Belgium), the R8 LMS ultra entered by Belgian Audi Club Team WRT promptly claimed two victories.

Customer sport with the R8 LMS is an international business. 2012 saw Audi launch the R8 LMS Cup in China – because of its resounding success there, the single-brand race series is now expanding into South Korea, Malaysia and Macau. The series is composed of twelve races with a field of more than 20 cars. A few of them are driven by celebrities like ex-DTM driver Rahel Frey and Chinese driver Congfu Cheng. Audi Sport is also active in North America, where the upgraded R8 GRAND-AM made a strong start to the new season in January 2013 – with victory in the GT category at the 24 Hours of Daytona.

Audi Sport customer racing supports its customer teams worldwide – the parts store has no less than 4,650 entries, with a total of 47,862 parts sent last year in 817 delivers to 42 customers. Aside from regular race operation, Audi customers can also book training courses with the R8 LMS ultra; the three-phase program extends all the way to real-life racing on the Nurburgring.

The TT RS has flanked the customer sport activities since 2011. The compact race car is specifically adapted for the SP4T Class in the VLN Endurance Cup – it is a specialist for the Nürburgring Nordschleife. The series-production, five-cylinder turbo engine generates 280 kW (380 hp) and is mated to a sequential racing transmission. The car is set up for front-wheel drive – thanks to its sophisticated kinematics and efficient aerodynamics, the TT RS has amazing traction and smooth handling characteristics.
