In June 2001, the Engine Development department in Győr was officially inaugurated. The 5,000 square meter office building with test area was implemented with the expansion of the plant site. Engine Development at AUDI HUNGARIA MOTOR Kft. celebrated its tenth jubilee in 2011. At that time, approximately € 31 million (HUF 9 billion) was invested in Engine Development and more than 165 jobs were created. Engine Development supports Engine Production primarily with local series-support activities. The development engineers receive their tasks from Engine Production as well as from AUDI AG, and provide support with the ramp-up of new products.
At present, 177 engineers and other employees are working on various development projects. Their fundamental tasks are supplemented with special competencies such as friction measurements, acoustic analyses and specific 3D simulation tasks. Engine Development has 13 ultramodern test stands and a workshop equipped with state-of-the-art technology.
Audi Hungaria has put a new air-conditioning test stand into operation in its Engine Development department. Following the conclusion of the two-year project, the new technology now makes it possible to test engines under simulated extreme temperatures and weather conditions. This means that Audi Hungaria can perform tests not only for the Győr site, but also for the plants in Ingolstadt and Neckarsulm.
AUDI HUNGARIA MOTOR Kft. expanded its development activities in late 2011 with the Complete Vehicle Development department. With 70 new jobs for engineers in the coming years, the focus is currently on testing vehicles close to production. The objective is to provide optimal support for product ramp-ups at Audi Hungaria. In the future, the Complete Vehicle Development department will test main components and vehicles under realistic operating conditions, as well as carrying out numeric vehicle simulations and various special analyses.
