Environmental protection and social responsibility
AUDI AG strives to strike a balance between economy and ecology. It openly communicates its company’s environmental protection work and involves all employees in such activities. This approach ensures that the company systematically implements its environmental goals. The Audi Production System (APS) has been used intensively for this purpose in recent years as a means of implementing the numerous environmental aspects and Audi’s environmental policy at all levels. Audi’s environmental standards also apply to production in Changchun and Foshan within the framework of the APS.
Together with the local partner FAW, Audi will launch a plug-in-hybrid-model for China. The Audi A6 e-tron will be based on the long-wheelbase version of the Audi A6. Audi will develop this model particularly for China. In 2011, Audi launched an efficiency program with its partner FAW-Volkswagen that reduced the average fuel consumption of Audi models produced in China in 2013 by 20 percent. Efficient start-stop technology in all local models makes a substantial contribution. In addition to start-stop and recuperation, the recovery of energy, systematic lightweight construction also contributes to greater efficiency. In 2012, with the new Audi A6 L, Audi became the first manufacturer to incorporate lightweight components into the models it builds locally in China. Out of all the leading manufacturers, Audi also offers three hybrid models in the Chinese market (Audi Q5 hybrid quattro, Audi A6 hybrid, Audi A8 L hybrid). The plug-in-hybrid-model Audi A3 Sportback e-tron* will come to China as well. In 2014, Audi will be the first manufacturer in China to localize an efficient power unit, which already conforms to the future EU6 standard in Europe.
Operation of the new plant in Foshan takes environmental factors into account. Various measures, for example heat recovery, closed-loop use of process water and integrated recycling, are implemented. These measures help the company to save 100,000 metric tons of CO2 each year.
Audi is also involved in an array of cultural and sporting initiatives in China. The company organizes the “Audi Art and Design Award,” the “Audi Summer Concerts” and the “Audi quattro Cup.” Audi also supports the renowned “Beijing Music Festival”. The company promotes young, talented musicians through the Audi Young Musician Plan.
