Production at FAW-Volkswagen
Car production at the joint venture in Changchun comprises the four essential areas of car production: press shop, body shop, paint shop and assembly. FAW-Volkswagen increased the annual Audi production capacity in Changchun to 400,000 cars over the last few years. The plant currently produces the models Audi A4 L, Audi A6 L, Audi Q3 and Audi Q5.
The flexible plant structure means that capacity can gradually be increased in line with the market situation. Audi plans to expand its annual capacity in Changchun to up to 500,000 cars over the next few years. Production operations at the joint venture meets the same AUDI AG standards as the rest of the company’s plants worldwide. Audi brought state-of-the-art automotive and manufacturing technologies such as laser welding and wax flooding to China back in the late 1990s.
FAW-Volkswagen completed, the new plant in Foshan, southern China, in 2013. As with the Changchun plant, it comprises a complete production facility. In the beginning of 2014 Audi has started producing the Audi A3 Sportback in Foshan. The Audi A3 Sedan will roll off the assembly line later this year. Audi production at the Foshan plant (Guangdong Province) will initially have an annual volume of 150,000 to 200,000 cars. Over the course of the next few years, the Changchun and Foshan plants will give Audi a total capacity of up to 700,000 cars.
Audi’s partner FAW is the oldest and largest automotive group in China, comprising more than 100 companies with over 100,000 employees.
