Final sprint in the Audi MedCup
- Tailwind for Franco-German Audi boat after victory in Italy
- Penultimate regatta at Cartagena (Spain) to start on August 23
- Fans around the world can watch races live on the iPhone
The Audi MedCup will be racing toward the finish straight next week at the regatta off the coast of Cartagena. Just two more rounds to go and then the winner in the “Champions League” of sailing will have been determined. Fans can experience the competition of the yachts – including two boats featuring the Four Rings – by live streaming on the iPhone or the iPod touch.
By winning the regatta at Cagliari four weeks ago the Franco-German crew of Audi Sailing Team powered by ALL4ONE caused a big surprise. Now the team around the three-time Olympic winner Jochen Schümann wants to continue this success at the two last rounds in Spain. “Our rivals will be keeping an eye on our boat from now on,” say the helmsman and his partner Stéphane Kandler. At the front of the field the teams of “Quantum Racing” and “Container” are fighting a duel for the lead and behind them another boat sporting the colors of the Ingolstadt-based automobile manufacturer – “Audi Azzurra Sailing Team” – is lurking. Audi Sailing Team is ranking in seventh place.
Since the beginning of the 2011 sailing season, Audi has been offering a free app for the iPhone and the iPod touch containing all the news, photos, results, background information and videos about the Audi MedCup commitment. Another extra has been added since the last regatta. Supporters can watch the competitions on water close-up by live streaming. The “Audi Sailing” app that is already being used by a few thousand sailing fans around the world is available free of charge at the App Store in German and English.
The regattas at Cartagena, a seaport city in the south-east of Spain, will start next Tuesday and end on Sunday, August 28. The finale of the 2011 Audi MedCup will be held off the coast of Barcelona from September 12 to 17.
