Audi’s golf commitment in 2012

  • Two highlights in Germany: German Open and Berenberg Bank Masters
  • More than a million fans: Audi quattro Cup starts into 22nd season

Partner of professional tournaments with high-caliber players in Germany on the one hand and promoter of worldwide amateur golf on the other: This is the successful mix with which Audi is starting into the 2012 season. Highlights are the Ladies German Open and the Berenberg Bank Masters plus the international Audi quattro Cup now to be held in its 22nd season.

With prize money in the amount of 400,000 euros the Berenberg Bank Masters ranks among the most attractive events on the European tournament calendar. From June 29 to July 1, the players will be meeting at Golfclub Wörthsee this time. Last year, after a ten-year absence, the European Senior Tour celebrated its comeback in Germany in front of more than 10,000 spectators. As co-sponsor and official vehicle partner, Audi is again providing 15 shuttle vehicles this year plus an Audi R8 Spyder as a “hole-in-one” prize and is featured with exhibition cars and on advertising boards. In addition to tournament ambassador Bernhard Langer, title defender Ian Woosnam and guest of honor Gary Player, a large number of the world’s best Senior Golfers are again expected at the second edition of the event.

For as much as the fifth time, from May 24 to 27, the UniCredit Ladies German Open presented by Audi will be held at Golfpark Gut Häusern. The prizes underscore the high prestige of the tournament. Audi is giving the winner an A5 Cabriolet and offering an R8 Spyder for the perfect strike on Hole 15. In addition, the car maker is supplying the vehicles for the shuttle fleet and making it possible for some of the female golfers to enjoy a particularly sporty week. Ten selected participants will receive an Audi A5 Cabriolet during the week of the tournament. Further activities have become integral components of the program whenever the Ladies European Tour (LET) visits Germany. Audi is equipping the shuttle service with 25 automobiles and will be featured on the grounds with its own golf terminal during the tournament week. In addition to a selection of current models, daily interview sessions with the players are awaiting the visitors. On the “Players Night,” Audi will be receiving the guests at its own lounge.

The participants of the Audi quattro Cup will be playing for the chance to travel to the world finale in South Africa. In 2012, the world’s most popular tournament series for amateur golfers is starting into its 22nd season. Since its inception in 1991 more than a million people have been playing under the symbol of the Four Rings. The concept is equally simple and popular. At the invitation of regional Audi partners, qualification tournaments are held as “foursomes with selected drive” from April to September. The winners qualify for the German finale to be played from September 3 to 7. Two months later, the two best teams will meet with their international competitors. This year, the world finale will be held at the impressive facility in Western Cape from November 23 to 27.

The Audi Ladies Cup is the counterpart of the Audi quatto Cup for female amateurs. The series that has been held since 1995 is played at about 120 German golf clubs each season as an annual eclectic at the invitation of regional Audi partners. In addition, the club winners participate in the drawing of lots for a ProAm participation slot at the UniCredit Ladies German Open.

On May 15, 2012, the Süddeutsche Zeitung Business Golf Cup will start into the season with support from Audi for the eighth time. The tournament is the opening event of a series of 15 one-day tournaments. The Cup is not only a sporting competition but also provides an ideal opportunity to intensify business relations and establish new contacts. As a main sponsor, the company is making several vehicles available to the officials of the association which has about 625,000 members.
