Audi expands program at Kieler Woche
- Audi is premium partner of sailing festival in the north for the third time
- Numerous off- and onshore attractions planned
- Smooth regatta process thanks to trailer service with 30 Audi Q7
Happy Birthday Kieler Woche: On the occasion of the 130th anniversary of the sailing festival in Germany’s far north Audi is expanding its commitment as premium partner. In addition to plenty of offshore action and perfect service for the sailors, the auto maker from Ingolstadt is now bringing the fascination of sailing closer than ever to the fans.
A new attraction for festival visitors will be the Audi Sailing Arena at the Kieler Yacht-Club where the guests will not only have the opportunity to experience sailing as observers but can also try out their own skills: sailing orientation sessions, the Audi Opti Cup, stand-up-paddling, canoe polo, short races or skill races are just a few examples of the varied program. In addition, all offshore decisions are shown onshore on large screens with commentaries by presenters.
Besides the Audi Sailing Arena, the “Audi-Fantreff” in Schilksee remains a popular meeting place for all spectators. The daily podium ceremonies and the interview sessions are held across from the Audi Hospitality for guests. Naturally, the regattas can be watched on a large screen there as well. The “Kieler Woche TV” program that was launched last year is tagged “powered by Audi” again in 2012, airing live footage of the regattas or interviews and talk sessions with host Nils Kaben daily from 11:00 to 17:30.
To ensure optimum logistics during the competitions, Audi is sending 30 vehicles of the Q7 model for the trailer service to Kiel. In 2011, more than 1,500 boat movements had to be handled. The changes between the various boat classes have to be managed in a matter of minutes to assure the smooth running of the regattas. In addition to the trailer service, Audi equips the shuttle fleet for which 30 Audi A8 cars are used. Plus, for visitors who are keen to personally experience the pleasure of driving, models ranging from the Audi A1 to the Audi Q7 will be available for test driving throughout the Kieler Woche.
In 2012, Audi itself is also leaving shore again. “A dream comes true” is the name of the project in which ten Audi guests with sailing experience participate in regattas together with pros of the Audi Sailing Team on board of a TP52 yacht. At the helm will be the three-time Olympic winner Jochen Schümann. The ProAm team has scored remarkable successes. After the practically sensational German Champion’s title in the debut year of 2010 the team achieved a respectable sixth place last year.
For the members of Sailing Team Germany, the Kieler Woche has a special significance this year. On the Baltic Sea, the German national sailing team, Audi Sailing Team Germany, is gearing up for the 2012 Olympic Games in London. The team has been supported by Audi since 2010; the Four Rings are displayed on clothing, sails and boat hulls. In addition, the company is making 50 vehicles available to the sailors.
