Audi in Kiel: highlights, celebrities, sailing action

  • Audi is premium partner of Kieler Woche for the third time
  • Extensive program for the whole family at the Audi Sailing Arena
  • Audi puts sailing on TV, the internet and the iPhone

On the occasion of the 130th anniversary of the sailing festival in Germany’s far north, Audi has extended its premium partner commitment. From June 16 on, the automaker from Ingolstadt is expecting numerous celebrity guests at the Kiel Fjord. With a wide and varied multimedia offering on the internet and for mobile devices, Audi is bringing the sailing action to onshore observers.

When Kiel turns into the capital city of all sailors and sailing fans for a little more than a week numerous prominent guests will be going on board as well. Actor Ralf Möller, ski racer Hilde Gerg, bobsled rider André Lange and the winner of the fourth DTM race, Edoardo Mortara, are just some of the athletes who will travel to Germany’s far north at Audi’s invitation.

The two meccas for festival visitors are the Audi Sailing Arena at the Kieler Yacht-Club and the Audi-Fantreff in Schilksee. At the Yacht-Club, guests will not only be able to witness sailing in the observer’s role but have the chance to try out their own skills: introductory sailing, the Audi Opti Cup, stand-up paddling, canoe polo, sprint sailing races or racing skill tests are only a few examples of the program’s special attractions. In addition, all maritime decisions will be broadcast with commentaries for watching on large onshore projection screens.

In Schilksee, across from the Audi Hospitality for guests, the daily podium ceremonies and interview sessions will be held. Of course the regattas can be watched on large screens here as well. The “Kieler Woche TV” program that was launched last year comes with the tagline “powered by Audi” in 2012 again and will be airing live reports of the regattas or interviews and talk sessions with host Nils Kaben daily from 11:00 to 17:30. In addition, the “Audi Star Talk” will be recorded at the Audi Lounge on Monday (nation-wide broadcast on SPORT1, at 22:30 on June 19 and at 7:30 on June 20). Besides sailing star Jochen Schümann, guests at the show include medal hopeful Moana Delle and global circumnavigator Boris Herrmann.

For those who cannot travel to Kiel, Audi is bringing the sailing action from Kiel online to their homes. At www.audi-sailing.de, the entire program of the Ingolstadt brand in Kiel, as the partner of Audi Sailing Team Germany and in international sailing, will be featured. Equally extensive is the content offered on the “Audi Sailing” app, which is available free of charge for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch at the App Store. In addition to the entire schedule and information, sailing fans will also find current pictures and videos of the events on this app.

To ensure optimal logistics during the competitions Audi is deploying 30 vehicles of its Q7 model to Kiel for the trailer service. In 2011, around 1,500 boat movements had to be performed, requiring the change between different boat classes to be accomplished in a matter of minutes. In addition to the trailer service, Audi is also providing the vehicles for the shuttle fleet for which 30 Audi A8 cars are used. And for visitors who want to enjoy the fun of driving themselves, models ranging from the Audi A1 through to the Audi Q7 will be available throughout the Kieler Woche for test driving.
