A team for ten years: Audi and “Bayern”

  • Special anniversary of the partnership with FC Bayern Munich
  • Vehicle handover to players and coaches at the Audi Forum Ingolstadt
  • Arjen Robben, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Jupp Heynckes in Audi Q7

Audi and FC Bayern Munich have been on the ball together for the past decade. The annual vehicle handover was therefore a welcome opportunity to reflect on shared moments.

Goalkeeper Oliver Kahn, midfield star Michael Ballack and goal hunter Giovane Elber plus coach Ottmar Hitzfeld – these were the protagonists to receive their first Audi models in July 2002 – the S6 as sedan and Avant versions back then. About three months earlier, Audi and FC Bayern had announced their collaboration. This year, the partnership is celebrating its tenth anniversary.

“Audi and FC Bayern – this has simply been and will remain a strong team,” says Rupert Stadler, Chairman of the Board of Management of AUDI AG. “Looking back on the joint decade, we recall many exceptional moments on and off the soccer field. We are proud of the long and intensive cooperation and already look forward to the future – on behalf of all Audi employees I wish FCB a lot of success in the new season.”

During the visit to the Audi Forum in Ingolstadt Coach Jupp Heynckes, President Uli Hoeneß, Chairman of the Board Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and the team of the German record champion not only picked up their new company cars. They also took out time to give interviews and to sign autographs for numerous Audi employees and fans before a friendly match at the Audi Sportpark is held in the evening.

The team will then head back for Munich in the new company cars. Favorites of the Bavarians include the Audi Q7 that was selected by Arjen Robben, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Coach Jupp Heynckes and goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, among others. Other popular cars are the Audi S8 (Mario Gomez, Luiz Gustavo, Toni Kroos, Franck Ribéry and newcomer Claudio Pizzaro, among others) and the Audi RS 5 (Holger Badstuber and Jérôme Boateng). Whether sedans, coupés or SUVs: all of the new vehicles for the Bayern stars have permanent quattro all-wheel drive.

Audi’s commitment far exceeds the role of a vehicle partner. The team, for instance, visits Audi events like the DTM or the Ski World Cup. At the Audi driving experience, the players learn how to handle their cars even more safely. And the Audi Cup that in 2009 and 2011 was held at the Allianz Arena with FC Bayern as the host enjoys extremely high worldwide prestige. This is due, not least, to such prominent participants as FC Barcelona or Real Madrid – both being members of the international soccer family of the carmaker based in Ingolstadt as well.

Audi and Bayern are associated with each other aside from the sport too, as the automobile manufacturer from Ingolstadt holds a total stake of 9.09 percent in FC Bayern München AG.
