Audi quattro Cup: World finale has been decided

  • Teams from Australia and South Africa win in Western Cape
  • Over 800 qualification tournaments culminate in world finale
  • Ski star Didier Cuche as guest of honor in South Africa

From A for Argentina to U for United Arab Emirates: The winners of the finals in the various countries played for victory in the 2012 Audi quattro Cup in South Africa. Prior to the event, more than 80,000 amateur golfers had been battling to make it into the world finale that was held in Western Cape.

Giora Friede and Jason Rubenstein from Australia (Group Net A, team handicap 0–13), Brian Blignaut and Nico Uys from South Africa (Group Net B, team handicap 14–36) are the winners of the tournament. In two rounds across 18 holes each they prevailed against their competitors from around the world.

“The world finale here in South Africa was the attractive culmination of a thrilling season. Congratulations to the winners of the 2012 Audi quattro Cup 2012,” says Lothar Korn, Head of Marketing Communications of AUDI AG. “I’d like to thank the participants from all the nations for their enthusiasm. Every year, they make the quattro Cup one of the most popular tournaments. We’re already looking forward to starting into the 23rd season next spring.

Since its inaugural season in 1991 the Audi quattro Cup has attracted more than a million participants. This year, more than 80,000 golfers competed in 824 qualification tournaments. Western Cape, a little more than an hour’s drive east of Cape Town, was the venue of the world finale this year. Guests of honor on location were the Swiss ski star Didier Cuche and the South African Cameron van der Burgh, the gold medalist in the 100 meter breaststroke at the London Olympics. Together with the participants they experienced a versatile supporting program alongside the competition on the golf course. It included an Audi driving experience with sporty models of the automobile brand based in Ingolstadt and a live show featuring the South African band Freshlyground. Attendees who weren’t active on the green themselves had the opportunity of watching whales on a boat tour – an attraction the coastal region is famous for.
