AC Milan beat São Paulo FC 1:0 in the third place playoff earlier in the evening. In the final between FC Bayern München and Manchester City FC, the local matadors won 2:1 and in doing so won the first international title of the new season.
“We enjoyed two thrilling evenings of football here in Munich. I’d like to thank all four teams,” explained Luca de Meo, Member of the Board of Management for Marketing and Sales at AUDI AG, who also presented the winner’s trophy to ‘birthday boy’ Bastian Schweinsteiger. “That was first class football in front of a fantastic crowd. With a worthy winner, congratulations to FC Bayern München.” The third Audi Cup tournament was broadcast in over 200 countries worldwide.
There were two other winners on the final day of the Audi Cup 2013: Marco Amelia (AC Milan) and Thomas Müller (FC Bayern München) were voted as most valuable players in the two matches by a specialist jury of sports journalists and other football experts.
